There are many variations of the kurta pyjama in different parts of the country. Often these variations are characterized by different cuts, varied methods of embroidery and ornamentation, different methods of dying and various fabrics. Simple cotton Kurta pyjamas are often used for everyday use and the kurta or the tunic itself is often teamed up with denims for a casual indo-western look. Embroidered and  ornate kurta pyjamas are often reserved for occasions like weddings and festivals. Common embroidery and ornamentation techniques used to beautify these traditional outfits are zari, resham, zardosi and stone and crystal applique.

Sherwani

Similar in silhouette to the kurta, the sherwani is more of an overcoat generally worn over the kurta. The sherwani is characterized by its use of heavy weight fabrics and in many cases more detailed embroidery and ornamentation work than the kurta. Jacquard, variations of silk and jute are common fabrics used to stitch sherwanis. Modern day variations of the sherwani are indo-western blazer like suits with an ethnic touch of fine embroidery and stonework. Sherwanis are immensely popular at weddings and most grooms opt for this traditional outfit.
